Hey, this is Nathan for you. Now that the strikes are over, Nathan Fielder (the real one) can promote his new Showtime show The Curse as often as he wants. And in classic Fielder fashion, he chooses a strange way to do it. Maybe the marketing team told him, “Just see what you can do,” but he heard, “Start with “Someone But You”?” Fielder saw an opportunity when the latest trailer for upcoming romantic comedy Anyone But You dropped, which was preceded by a short clip of Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney bantering against a blue backdrop. Here’s a recap of all the trolling that followed, somehow leading Powell to urge Fielder to show his hole and Any But You director Will Gluck to apologize using the Notes app.
On Thursday, Sony Pictures released a new trailer for “Anyone But You,” which includes an introductory clip in which Powell and Sweeney playfully argue about which movie it is. Less than 24 hours later, Fielder uploaded a parody to social media. He donned a polo as Powell and recruited “The Curse” co-star Emma Stone as Sweeney. The dialogue was the same, except this duo said “show” instead of “movie.”

Sweeney left a few laughing emojis on Fielder’s Instagram. Over at X, Powell responded more cheekily. He Posted a screenshot of his butt from the trailer with the caption “@NathanFielder it doesn’t count unless you go all the way…”
Just hours after uploading his Friday video, Fielder posted a Notes app statement pointing out that Anything But You’s marketing team had actually plagiarized the clip of The Curse that he claimed was before been filmed for more than six months. “As artists doing this type of advertising, we simply read the scripts we are given with the unwavering certainty that the creativity we are showing is completely original and not drawn from competing projects or generated by AI ( an ongoing battle waged by artists around the world). trying to put a stop to it,” he wrote. “It’s unfortunate that Sydney, Glen, Emma and I have found ourselves in this situation.” Still, there are no hard feelings here – he concluded in his statement that he and Stone will both be in the front row to watch See “Anyone But You” on opening night.
Will Gluck, the director of “Anyone But You,” finally spoke out on Friday evening. “In today’s era of cancel culture, sometimes it’s better to just own up to your mistakes. We actually stole the trailer launch idea from The Curse and for that we deeply apologize,” he wrote on Instagram. To clarify, he also admitted to another violation: “We have also confiscated your poster for our campaign. We had planned to publish it next week, but for obvious (and legal) reasons we will no longer do so.” (Of course, his post still included an image of that poster.) Gluck concluded that “we all “The Curse” debuted on Showtime in November.
