National Bank Open: Maria Sharapova visiting Canada

Former world No. 1 Maria Sharapova will be in Canada on August 9th as part of the National Bank Open, where she will be the keynote speaker at “Outstanding: Conference on Gender Equality in Sport“.

The event will take place in Toronto and was confirmed by Tennis Canada on Tuesday.

The Russian topped the women’s tennis hierarchy for 21 weeks, winning all four Grand Slam tournaments. However, she was never able to win the Canadian tournament and lost in the final in 2009 to her compatriot Elena Dementieva.

In addition to Sharapova, Canadian Stacey Allaster, manager of the US Open, will also be present.

The National Bank Open will take place in Montreal (WTA) and Toronto (ATP) from August 4th to 13th.

TVA Sports will broadcast the entire competition.
