National protest for abortion rights in the US

Countless people gathered in the US capital, Washington, and in other cities across the country to protest for abortion rights. Several thousand people gathered on the National Mall promenade in Washington today at noon (local time). They then wanted to go to the country’s Supreme Court.

There were also protests in other cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago and New York. Hundreds of demonstrations were announced across the country. Several organizations asked people to take to the streets.

There is no federal law in the United States that allows or prohibits abortion. However, abortions are allowed at least until the fetus is viable. The basis for this is a US Supreme Court decision in 1973.

In early May, Politico magazine published an outline of the Supreme Court’s reasoning, which shows that the United States Supreme Court is about to strike down this liberal US abortion law. In the absence of federal legislation, states would have jurisdiction. Numerous states ruled by conservatives want to broadly ban abortion.
