Foreign ministers from NATO countries will meet this Wednesday in Brussels for talks with their Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba. Discussions at the defense alliance headquarters will focus, among other things, on the situation at the front and the need for support from Ukraine. Ukraine’s plans to adapt its security sector to NATO standards are also a problem.
For the first time, consultations will be organized at the level of Foreign Ministers in the format of the new NATO-Ukraine Council. The body is intended to enable closer cooperation until the requirements for Ukraine’s admission to NATO are met. The NATO-Ukraine Council met for the first time at the level of heads of state and government in July, at the NATO summit in Lithuania. There was also a meeting at the level of defense ministers and several at the level of NATO ambassadors.
Without Ukraine, the foreign ministers of NATO countries had already discussed on Tuesday the ongoing preparations for next year’s anniversary summit in Washington. The three-day summit in July aims to celebrate NATO’s 75th anniversary.
