Navalny was transferred to a correctional facility

Out of Alexei Navalny The traces were lost a few days ago when his lawyers could not reach him on December 6th. Hence the alarm from lawyers and many activists close to his party Russia of the future. On December 11th the penal colony of Vladimir, a region between Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod, confirmed that Navalny's name is no longer on the list. It was precisely in this region that the activist and Putin opponent served a 19-year prison sentence on charges of financing extremist activities.

The turning point has come in the last few hours. In fact, Navalny would have been taken to another correctional facility, which is currently unknown. This was revealed by the website Sotavision, which sources from the Vladimir court reported.

Navalny on the way to the new prison

When his lawyers raised the alarm, several activists began searching for more information. On Telegram, the channel Baza spoke about the possible presence of Navalny a Fly. The opponent was expected here on Monday, December 11, for a hearing in connection with another trial against him, this time for alleged cases of vandalism.

But he never arrived in the courtroom in the Russian capital. The hearing was actually postponed to a later date. Concern therefore increased and transcended Russian borders. The document taken out by Sotavision confirmed that an order was placed for the Russian activist transfer. However, we must understand the reason for the current silence. In Russia, transfers do not occur quickly, as the editors of the site themselves emphasized.

Prisoners are almost always transported by train and the journeys can be very long. From the capital to Siberia or from the prison colonies in the south to the institutes in the Russian Far East. In some cases in the past, the transfer of prisoners took up to a month because the journey was divided into stages.

Only after arriving at the new penal colony will the move be officially announced to both the lawyers and the families. According to the law, communication can take place within ten days from the transmission. So perhaps this is the reason for the silence: Navalny could still be on the move or the legally required days for official communications have not yet expired.

The sentence imposed on Navalny

The mystery should be finally clarified in the next few days. But that certainly doesn't help activists and Navalny fans completely allay their concerns. The opponent has been in prison for more than a year and is expected to remain in prison for at least 18 years following the sentence imposed in 2022.

According to activists, his conviction for funding extremist activities was politically motivated. Navalny is not only chairman of the “Russia of the Future” party, but is best known for his activities as a blogger. His writings have denounced several cases of corruption linked to United Russia, a group led by President Vladimir Putin. For his critics, however, Navalny is a nationalist whose activities have weakened Moscow's image abroad.
