A Naziera tank possibly the last of its kind has been found in a river in Poland some 80 years after it sank, according to the British website Chron.
According to local legend, in 1945 the Nazis lost several tanks while trying to escape the Soviet army across the Czarna Nida River near Bieleckie Młyny in southern Poland.
In 1990 and 2003, two incomplete tanks were removed from the river, but there were still rumors of another missing tank, the website says.
According to local media, a similar model was sold in Germany two years ago for 15 million euros (about R$80 million).
The vehicle now found was a Bergepanther a tank used to pull other tanks.
Michał Kęszycki, technical manager of the tank farm, organized the rescue operation. He told local media that in the early 1990s, an older man showed his uncle the spot where the tank was said to have sunk.
Kęszycki said he found the exact location several months ago using a magnetometer, an instrument that measures the intensity and direction of the Earth’s magnetic field.
“There are only a few Bergepanther tanks in the world, but this version is the only one,” he said.
