Millions of dollars worth of treasure hoarded and hidden by the Nazis during World War II has now been found thanks to a map that appears to indicate the exact location where the loot was buried. The document was released by the Dutch National Archives on Tuesday and since that day groups of treasure hunters armed with metal detectors and shovels have entered the fields around the rural area of Ommeren in the Netherlands, where four large boxes full of diamonds, rubies, gold, Silver and all sorts of jewels stolen by the Nazis after a bank explosion in August 1944.

The treasure’s existence was never confirmed, but the Institute tried to find it in 1947, National Archives spokeswoman Anne-Marieke Samson told Portal: “We don’t know for sure if it existed. But the Institute has conducted many checks and found the story reliable – said Samson – the treasure may very well have already been unearthed.
The possibility of finding valuables hasn’t deterred amateur archaeologists: “I see groups of people with metal detectors everywhere,” Jan Henzen, 57, told Portal as he paused his search for the chance that the treasure is still here after 70 years is years is tiny.
