The first overall pick of the 2019 draft suffered an Achilles tendon injury in his right leg during Monday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers, the Louisiana squad confirmed Tuesday.

It’s another blow for the 6’6″, 284lb giant. He notably missed all of last season due to a foot injury.

Williamson has so far lived up to the high expectations placed on him in 2022. In 29 games, he averaged 26.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.6 assists.

The Pelicans (23-14), third in the NBA Western Conference, have been without the services of fellow star player Brandon Ingram since Nov. 25.
