His absence was noticeable. In the final season of NCIS – the twentieth! –, the character of Gibbs is gone. As the series' other original characters left the ship over time, Gibbs had become a safe choice for the police program. But this year, Mark Harmon, Gibbs' interpreter, hung up the phone. And left his place to a new team leader for NCIS: Alden Parker, played by Gary Cole. However, it wasn't long before I heard from Gibbs again. According to the media, Deadline is preparing a spin-off of the series that will focus exclusively on this character and his journey before his arrival at the head of the group of special agents. And Mark Harmon is obviously there. The series, which should be ready to broadcast in the 2024-2025 season, is called a priori NCIS: Origins.
In the spin-off series we find former notable characters from NCIS
According to initial information from Deadline, the plot of NCIS: Origins begins in 1991. In this prequel series we will see the development of a young Leroy Gibbs as he begins his career in the Special Forces. The opportunity to find the character of Mike Franks, a mentor to Gibbs. A character we've seen numerous times on NCIS, who was stabbed in Season 8 but continued to appear in Gibbs' dreams to give him advice. This return, produced by Mark Harmon and his son Sean Harmon – who himself had played the role of young Gibbs on NCIS several times – could be a winning bet for the CBS network, broadcaster and producer of the series in the United States. Especially since Mark Harmon was supposed to voice the story's narrator.

The NCIS universe continues to grow
This new spin-off in the pipeline joins the long list of spin-off series dreamed up by NCIS creators Donald Paul Bellisario and Don McGill. Given the success of the original, they wanted to create an entire universe around this special forces area. We can therefore follow NCIS in Los Angeles, New Orleans, Hawaii and even Sydney. NCIS: Origins will therefore be the first spin-off to revolve around a specific character rather than a city.
