After a several-year absence, Michael Weatherlyn, who played Tony DiNozzo, has announced he will soon be making a comeback in the new season of NCIS.
Will 2023 be marked by the reunion between Ziva (Cote de Pablo) and Tony in NCIS? Anyway, Michael Weatherly, the latter’s interpreter, suggested so in a tweet published to celebrate the New Year.
This January 1, the actor posted a video on his account that looks back on the past year and the year to come. One NCIS fan then took the opportunity to express his greatest desire to see Tony and Ziva “finally reunited.”
Michael Weatherly, who last appeared on the famous detective series in May 2016, at the end of Season 13, replied: “Keep in touch … because this year could be interesting for such ‘moments’!”. Does this announcement mean Special Agent Tony DiNozzo will be back in NCIS? The mystery remains.
In the season 13 finale, Tony learned of Ziva’s death, killed in a bomb attack on the David family farmhouse. It was then that he discovered the existence of Tali, a young girl whom Ziva had given birth to several years earlier. Dinozzo then announced his desire to leave NCIS to take care of his daughter.
A few years later, during the season 16 finale, viewers learned that the character portrayed by Cote de Pablo was actually alive (but on the run) and that she would reconnect with her daughter’s father.
Prior to the launch of Season 20 last September, TVLine also asked NCIS showrunner Steven D. Binder if there were any plans for Tony DiNozzo to return to the crime series. To which he replied “Wouldn’t that be great?”. To be continued…
