Residents of the Ecovila Clareando rural condominium where Cássia Kis lives wrote a manifesto against homophobia. The artist’s neighbors say the community has a “sense of life support” and dismiss her homophobic speeches.
“Unfortunately, in mid2022, we still have to fight vehemently against statements full of ignorance, prejudice and discrimination. And despite the weariness and sadness of debating such elemental issues, we affirm the obvious — the right to love, the right to marry, and most importantly, the right to exist — but we do it now and we will do it whenever necessary,” it reads in the document.
In the document, the signatories also affirm that they have “respect for the individualities of their collective.”
During a live performance with journalist Leda Nagle in October, the actress delivered a homophobic speech. Cássia Kis said that samesex couples “destroy the family”.
“There is no longer man and woman, but a woman with a woman and a man with a man, this gender ideology that is already in schools. I get the incredible pictures of 6, 7 year olds kissing. Two girls kiss in a school where there is a room called Beijódromo. What’s behind it? Destroy the family. destroy human life? For as far as I know, a man does not produce children with a man, nor does a woman produce children with a woman. How do we do that?” she said at the time.
