(ANSA) – HAVANA, 19 DEC. – After announcing trips to a Cuban island off the coast of the island last month, the Italian airline Neos announced that it would return to Varadero, a beach that is one of the most important tourist destinations in Cuba and the fourth, to which it is based in this country already flying after the pandemic.
“After more than two and a half years of absence, Italian airline Neos is returning this month to Juan Gualberto Gómez International Airport, which is located in the tourist destination of Varadero, in the province of Matanzas in the west of the country and ranks second by the number of arrivals of travelers in Cuba “, says a television report from the west of the country.
The company’s first flight from Italy will take place on December 24th.
According to the sources consulted, Neos operated flights to Varadero until March 2020 as the Covid-19 pandemic worsened around the world.
Flights to major tourist destinations are good news for the struggling Cuban economy.
“Neos will be the 15th company to fly to Varadero Airport, alongside Poland’s Lot, England’s Thompson, Russia’s North Wind and others from Honduras, Germany and the Dominican Republic,” local sources specializing in tourism said.
The European airline will fly to the fourth destination on Christmas Eve 2022, which it is “recovering” from the epidemic on the island.
Cuban industry, among other exhibitors, is prioritizing leisure travelers to Italy, in a process that has been described as gradual. According to published statistics, Italy is among the Cuban emitters of tourists behind Canada, the Cuban community abroad, the United States, Spain, Germany, Russia, England and France and in that order.
