(ANSA) — SANTIAGO DE CHILE, FEBRUARY 17 — The murder of Pablo Neruda is “a fact that can no longer be concealed.” This has been confirmed with certainty by the results of the latest forensic analyzes carried out by an international panel of experts, the nephew of the Chilean poet, the lawyer Rodofo Reyes, who is also part of the legal staff of the civil party of the investigation that brings Chilean justice to the death of the poet.
Speaking at a press conference in Santiago with the Association of Foreign Correspondents, Reyes hoped the judiciary’s investigation would be completed later this year, reiterating that “the assassination of Pablo Neruda cannot be further covered up” and “there is not just the decision of Judge Paola Plaza” who is overseeing the case.
Neruda’s nephew revealed that the tests, carried out at two different laboratories in Canada and Denmark and presented to the court on Wednesday, showed the “falsity of the 1973 death certificate which said my uncle had died of metastases from the diagnosed prostate cancer”. .
“The conclusions of the previous analyzes that had established the presence of a botulinum toxin are confirmed, and it is stated that the bacterium found (Clostridium botolinium) is of the endogenous type, i.e. where he died on September 23,” Reyes said.
“Regardless of how the toxin was introduced and who introduced it, the presence of a biological weapon in Neruda’s body can no longer be denied, it is a fact,” added attorney Elisabeth Flores, who attended the press conference with Reyes was .
The Chilean Nobel laureate for literature died on September 23, 1973 at the Santa María Clinic in Santiago, 12 days after Augusto Pinochet’s coup d’état that overthrew President Salvador Allende’s government.
The results of the forensic analyzes could therefore confirm the hypothesis that Neruda’s death was ordered by the Pinochet government with the aim of eliminating a political opponent. The judicial inquiry was launched following a complaint filed by the Chilean Communist Party and the poet’s family members. (HAND).
