Looking at possible post-war scenarios in Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed that any solution in the foreseeable future must include Israeli military control over the entire West Bank.
He admitted today at a press conference that this contradicts the idea of the sovereignty of a Palestinian state and continued: “What can you do?” He also tells this truth to his American friends.
Netanyahu distances himself from the two-state solution
“From every area we retreat from, we receive terror, terrible terror,” said the right-wing politician. This happened in southern Lebanon, the Gaza Strip and parts of the West Bank. This is why control in the West Bank is so important.
Referring to a two-state solution at US insistence, Netanyahu said: “Israel’s prime minister must be able to say no when necessary, even to our best friends.”
New shelling in the border area
Meanwhile, mutual shelling broke out again on the border between Lebanon and Israel. The Israeli military said several rockets were fired at Israeli towns and communities on the border with its northern neighbor. Army fighter jets then attacked terrorist infrastructure and Hezbollah militia posts in southern Lebanon.
