Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday (2) that the country would continue the war against Hamas “until all of its goals are achieved,” including the release of Israeli hostages and the elimination of the power of the Islamic movement in the Gaza Strip.

“Our soldiers have been preparing for a total victory against Hamas during the days of the ceasefire,” the prime minister said.

The statement was made during Netanyahu’s first news conference since fighting resumed in the region.

After a week of ceasefire, the conflict intensified again on Friday morning (1st).

Netanyahu also stated that “safe areas” had been established for the movement of the population in Gaza.

“We, in coordination with international agencies and our American friends, have identified safe areas where the population knows they can evacuate,” he said.

According to the Israeli Prime Minister, this happened in the northern region of the Gaza Strip and the operation will be expanded to other areas to protect civilians.

“It’s important because we don’t want to cause any harm to the population. We want to avoid causing harm to the population. We have a very strong desire to harm Hamas,” he continued.

Netanyahu also stated that Israel would “continue to fight with all our might” to “ensure that Gaza does not pose a threat to the country again.”

“This is what our fighters prepared for during the ceasefire: a complete victory over Hamas,” he concluded.
