There are some trailers that are more intriguing than others. With this new anime you will see Assassin’s Creed, Cyberpunk 2077, Suicide Squad and even Rayman in the same project. Yes, that is possible, with Netflix in collaboration with Ubisoft.
So this is the multiverse?
If there is one topic that has dominated pop culture for several years, it is the multiverse. Between Fortnite, which brings together every possible and imaginable license, Ready Player One, which has tried to present a world full of references, and of course Marvel, which makes the multiverse the heart of its new post-Endgame era, the time for universes has come , which collide and Netflix understands that well.
In Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix (for which you can find the trailer above in our automatic player and whose title should already give you the color), you risk seeing characters that you never thought you would see in the same universe, and you very well could lead to something completely crazy, funny to watch. If we don’t know much about the summary of this project yet, we doIt will be released on Netflix on October 19th and that it is carried out in collaboration with Ubisoft. In fact, you will find some characters and references from the publisher’s video games, such as: a frog in an assassin outfit from Assassin’s Creed and Rayman as a TV presenter.
In addition to these two direct and assumed references, you will also notice this Everything seems to take place in a universe that closely resembles that of Cyberpunk 2077. If Netflix has already been able to collaborate with CD Projekt for the Edgerunners series, there is no doubt that this is not Night City, but another universe that uses the codes of the cyberpunk genre. Another clue that is as surprising as it is unofficial: the characters seem to have a bomb implanted in their brains at the end and have to act under orders from an authority that has the detonator. A process that obviously reminds The Suicide Squad from the DC Comics universe without being exactly the same.
With its cultural references from everywhere and its aesthetic between the 1980s and 1990s, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix looks completely insane. We can’t wait to find out more, but to satisfy our curiosity we’ll certainly have to wait for the October 19th release.
Netflix wants to establish itself as a leader in video game adaptations
If Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix isn’t a direct adaptation of a Ubisoft video game, it fits well with Netflix’s new desire to establish itself as the leader in smaller video game adaptations. After winning the hearts of the public with Arcane, Edgerunners, The Witcher, Castlevania and even Cuphead, the SVOD service doesn’t seem to want to stop there.
Just yesterday, Netflix unveiled a series of trailers and teasers focusing on their upcoming projects, and suffice it to say, there were a lot of video games. Tomb Raider, Devil May Cry, Castlevania, Sonic… all of these licenses are entitled to an arrival or return on Netflix in the coming weeks and months. It’s hard to say whether they will all have similar success as the best Netflix adaptations (Arcane and Edgerunners, for example), but we need to follow all of these projects closely. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the curse of video game adaptations will eventually be a thing of the past.
