The cast of Love is Blind season four
Netflix has apologized after the Love is Blind “live” reunion was postponed and pre-taped, with UK viewers still waiting to see it.
The dating show, which sees couples getting engaged before meeting, was scheduled to be broadcast live worldwide on April 17 at 01:00 GMT.
After a delay of 90 minutes, the live stream was canceled and the reunion was filmed instead.
Netflix said the reunion special will be available globally at 6pm BST.
There are no spoilers for the Love is Blind reunion in this article.
This was Netflix’s second attempt at live programming after successfully streaming a Chris Rock stand-up special in March of this year.
The comic’s routine aired flawlessly for the most part, with few users reporting issues via social media at the time, but technical glitches meant that the Love is Blind livestream never started at all for most people.
While some viewers in the US were able to watch the stream about 75 minutes after the scheduled start time, most saw an on-screen ad saying “There’s a problem with the live stream.”
Netflix announced delays over time and at 02:30 GMT – 90 minutes after it was scheduled to begin – the streaming giant apologized and told fans the episode was being filmed instead.
“To everyone who stayed up late, woke up early, gave up on their Sunday afternoon… we’re incredibly sorry that the Love is Blind Live reunion didn’t go the way we planned.” Netflix tweeted in a statement.
“We’re filming it now and we’ll have it on Netflix as soon as possible. Thanks again and sorry.”
Netflix didn’t give a reason for the cancellation of the live stream, but show host Vanessa Lachey indicated that there was a technical error in a live video on Instagram, which was captioned, “Apparently we broke the internet.”
And Downdetector, which tracks websites, showed that more than 10,000 people in the US reported the website not working during the stream.
But the decision to postpone the reunion caused dismay as fans in the UK, who preferred sleep over livestream, woke up to find the episode wasn’t available.
Some called the delay in releasing the episode online unacceptable, while others pointed out that it meant the spoilers were now circulating on social media.
And some global viewers have even claimed that they are no longer interested in watching the show at all.
