The leading actor of the new Netflix series criticized a very special thing about his stage costume: “It smelled too much”

After the success of the Netflix series The Witcher, based on the adventures of Geralt of Rivia, from the video game of the same name and the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, Netflix tries again with a new production based on the same narrative universe.

origin of the blood

While controversy rages over the removal of Henry Cavill, an actor who played The Witcher and who will be absent from season four, the new spin-off production tells a different story, set many years before the Events of the most important: similar to The Rings of Power or House of Dragon.Characters from The Witcher Blood Origin

Witcher: Blood Origin is currently available on Netflix. The four-part series unfolds 1,200 years before the events of The Witcher series and Blood Origin leads to the creation of the first witcher.

The series stars O’Fuarain, Sophia Brown, Zach Wyatt, Michelle Yeoh and Nathaniel Curtis. Additionally, Francesca Mills plays a warrior with her own war hammer, now seated in her bedroom, and introduces a new character, played by Minnie Driver.

The series was written and executive produced by Lauren Hissirch and Declan De Barra They both worked on The Witcher as showrunner or author. The series is based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, who was very supportive of Blood Origin.

Very different characters

While characters like Geralt become beings that combine magic and humanity, the first witcher looked a little different.

Actor Laurence O’Fuarain’s character, Fjall, is a powerful warrior who assumes the mantle of the first witcher in the final episodes of the season. However, he had to wear a large prosthesis for this transformation.

“It was tough,” O’Fuarain told GameSpot. “And when you have to wear prostheses in a chair for a few hours, it’s never easy, but it’s part of the process. It happened that around 2:00, 2:15 in the morning I was picked up from the apartment where I was staying. And then I was literally dropped off at around 10pm because once you put it on you have to walk around all day and then you have to take it off all the way. And my makeup artist Valentin had to be there before me so I can’t complain. It was the hardest thing for him. It was part of the job.”

Working with prosthetics all day was something O’Fuarain was familiar with, but what wasn’t initially known was what it would smell like after a full day’s work. “I think the most important aspect for me was the smell,” explained O’Fuarain. “The jumpsuit I ended up wearing… it stank. And I think that depends partly on the amount of sweat I’ve worn and partly on the material it’s made of. but those were very lonely daysbecause I had a bit of loneliness around me as most of the crew and cast stayed quite a distance away.”

Although those days were lonely, O’Fuarain said he enjoyed wearing the suit and felt “bestial”.

Future projects

Alongside the new series and season 3 of The Witcher is on the horizon, a remake of the first Witcher game in Unreal Engine 5, which will be open world, is in the works.
