Netflix said Monday it was “deeply saddened” by the deaths of “The Chosen One” actors Raymundo Garduño Cruz and Juan Francisco González Aguilar in a car accident in Mexico last week, injuring six others after their vans crashed into the city tipped over near the Baja California Peninsula.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic accident that took the lives of Ray Garduño and Juan Francisco González,” a rep for the streamer said in a statement Monday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “Our thoughts are with their families and with those injured in this unfortunate accident.”
A spokesman for Redrum, the production company making the series, said in a statement that it was “shocked” by the “tragic accident” on June 16 and “closely supports everyone affected by this unspeakable tragedy.”
The Latest: Netflix said Monday it was “deeply saddened” by the deaths of “The Chosen One” actors Raymundo Garduño Cruz (L) and Juan Francisco González Aguilar in a car accident in Mexico last week that injured six others
The company, which temporarily halted production of the show following the tragedy, said it “has been cooperating with local authorities and initial reports and reports from witnesses suggest all safety protocols were in place and this was an unfortunate accident.”
Both actors were reported dead by the Baja California Department of Culture, according to the Independent.
The fatal accident did not occur on the production set, THR reported, as the van was traveling from Santa Rosalía to a nearby airport at the time of the crash.
A source close to the production told the outlet that the six others in the vehicle — two actors and four crew members — were in stable condition.

A spokesman for SAG-AFTRA issued a statement after the tragedy, Deadline reported, in which he said the organization had “been in contact with Netflix and Mexican actors’ union ANDA about this incident and we are investigating the circumstances with the local production.”
“Safety on set is always our top priority. We will continue to take all necessary steps to ensure our members and others are safe in their workplace.’
The actors were filming a show centered around a 12-year-old boy who finds out he’s the second coming of Christ, TMZ reported. The series is based on a comic book by Mark Millar and artist Peter Gross, and the crew began filming in April, according to the comic book.
There is no release for the series and it was unclear how Netflix will proceed.
