He also claims that Outer Banks creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke have admitted to relying on other books and writers for inspiration to create the American action-adventure mystery teen drama write.

In addition, Wilson also believes that the series’ leads and their character arcs are nearly identical to the book, going so far as to say that the plot points and settings are also very similar.

The author is demanding that Netflix pay any profits they made from the alleged infringement of his novel, in addition to an injunction that would stop Netflix from distributing or promoting Outer Banks.

This isn’t the first time Netflix has been accused of stealing the concept for Outer Banks, as independently published author KW Wooten has sued Netflix and the creators of Outer Banks for “stealing” the plot of their teen drama, which began streaming on April 15.

In 2016, Wooten released Pennywise: The Hunt for Blackbeard’s Treasure! about four young adults who discover buried treasure from a fabled shipwreck on the outer shores of North Carolina.

“The archetypes of his protagonists and those of the show are almost identical,” the lawsuit claimed — according to TMZ at the time.

“And the villains too – namely a rich benefactor and a corrupt cop. He also says the plot is practically the same…including clues they find and places they lead them to.

However, the lawsuit was later dismissed after a judge found insufficient similarities between the two works.
