Netflix style? Book announced on the case of Juan Orlando Hernández

Journalist Matthew Russell Lee (Inner City Press) announced that he would describe the process in a new book, available on Amazon

The historic trial of former President Juan Orlando Hernández in the Southern District Court of New York, USA, was the scene of unprecedented media coverage in the country. Four days of negotiations, each lasting seven hours, have left witness revelations, accusations and a range of details that will shape Honduran politics as well as diplomatic relations between the two nations.

The hour-long process in which the Honduran population waited was reported live by a single journalist: Matthew Russell Lee. The American Communicator is the only reporter accredited by the American justice system to enter the courtrooms and publish what happens in the trials, from describing the debates between the prosecution and the defense to the testimony of the witnesses of both parties.

Russell Lee, who covers the trials on his website X (formerly Twitter), Inner City Press, is a veteran journalist who also covers the International Monetary Fund, the United Nations and the Southern District Court. In addition, he is also a writer and lawyer. He has reported on historic trials such as the one brought before these courts against Donald Trump, the former US President.

In the last few hours, Russell Lee has already published more than ten books about the trials he covered, including some about Trump, Ghislaine Maxwell, Kevin Spacey, the UN and its connection to the World Cup and Sam Bankman Fried (known as ” “The King of Cryptocurrencies”) announced a new text on the court proceedings and their reporting.

“After a week of the trial in the United States of Juan Orlando Hernández, the finding makes it more likely that another book will be published by Inner City Press,” Lee wrote in X along with a photo of Juan Orlando Hernández and Barack Obama. during a meeting as presidents of Honduras and the United States, respectively.

The publication of books on drug trafficking trials is a trend of the last two decades in Latin America and the United States, due to the escalation of the wave of arrests of drug lords and the connection of drug trafficking with politics.

Many of the books on drug trafficking inspire series and films about drug trafficking, particularly in Mexico, Colombia, and the United States. The major production companies adopt concepts from these books through agreements to develop stories based on the effects of the drug trade on society.

At the moment, Russell Lee has not published anything further about the delivery of the possible book on the trial of Juan Orlando Hernández, who is accused in the USA of three charges: conspiracy to import cocaine into the USA. Additionally, there is a conspiracy to possess firearms and destructive devices for drug trafficking.

Lee's books, available on Amazon, describe the trials and are a collection of testimony from defense attorneys and prosecutors. It also describes further details about those involved. In the Southern District of New York court, as in the entire American judicial system, it is forbidden (outside of public hearings) to bring electronic devices such as cell phones, computers, microphones or others, so only portraits (authorized by the same system) and Russell's description are allowed. Participants post and describe when the trial days are over or between breaks.

The trial of the former president of Honduras between 2014 and 2022 (two presidential terms) continues on Monday at 8:00 a.m. Honduras time.
