Never Opened: A $50,000 first-generation iPhone

A New York tattoo artist is hoping to fetch $50,000 (approx. CA$66,500) at auction for her first-generation iPhone, which has never been out of its box.

To mark the 15th anniversary of the iPhone, New Yorker Karen Green has auctioned off her first-generation 8GB device, which she received as a gift in 2007, still in its original packaging, CNN Business reported. The founder of Apple, Steve Jobs, also relied on this “We are going to make history together” when he presented his new product in 2007.

At the time, the 3.5-inch phone retailed for US$599 (approx. CA$800) and was capable of taking 2-megapixel photos. “We will write history together”, Apple founder Steve Jobs presented his new product in 2007.

Aside from last October, another first-generation iPhone sold for $39,000 (about US$51,900) at a US LCG auction. Karen Green’s was listed with a starting bid of US$2,500 (CA$3,330).

Tech enthusiasts who want to snag the relic have until February 19 to bid.
