New AMD Strix Point Leak Shows Significant Increases in Cache Size, Core Count and iGPU Performance Compared to Zen 4 Phoenix APUs – notebookcheck.biz

AMD is rumored to follow the Ryzen 7040HS Phoneix APUs and the Ryzen 7040HS Phoneix APUs with the Ryzen 8000 Strix Point and Strix Halo APUs. For the uninitiated, the AMD Strix Point and Strix Halo APUs are said to be combinations of Zen 5/5c CPU cores and RDNA 3.5 or 3+ iGPUs. Both APUs are expected to appear in laptops next year. The leaker adds to the growing amount of information about the Strix Point All_The_Watts shared Strix Point APU specs on Twitter that seem to confirm a lot of what we’ve already heard.

First of all, All_The_Watts claims that Strix Point APUs will feature up to 4 large Zen 5 processors and 8 small Zen 5c cores, for a total of 12 cores. Since Zen 5c cores are hyperthreading capable, the total number of threads for the 12-core Strix Point APU is expected to be 24. There would be two CCXs or core clusters.

As for the cache size, the Zen 5 CCX appears to have a 4MB L2 cache and a 16MB L3 cache. On the other hand, the Zen 5c CCX is expected to have 8MB of L2 and L3 cache. So Strix Point APUs could have a total of 24MB L3 cache and 12MB L2 cache. For comparison, Phoenix’s top-end APU, the Ryzen 9 7940HS, has 8MB of L2 cache and 16MB of L3 cache.

All_The_Watts also claims that the Strix Point will feature an 8 WGP/16 CUs RDNA 3+ iGPU. In other words, the Strix Point iGPU could have 33.33% more CPUs than the Radeon 780M in the Phoenix APUs, which has 12 CUs. Should this increase lead to a significant improvement in graphics performance, next year could be a turning point for integrated graphics cards, as Intel has also announced significant improvements for Meteor Lake’s Xe LPG iGPU.

The AMD Strix Point is also said to come with 64 AI Engine tiles to significantly improve the AI ​​capabilities on the chip. For reference, the XDNA AI Accelerator in the Phoenix APUs only has 20 tiles.

Finally, All_The_Watts claims that the Strix Point has a TDP of 28-35+W with supported memory speeds of DDR5-6400/LPDDR5X-8533.
