New British Foreign Minister Cameron in Kiev news

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron traveled to Ukraine today on his first trip abroad in his new cabinet. With his visit, the former prime minister said he wanted to highlight British support for Ukraine in a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev, just days after his surprise return to the British government.

Britain will continue to provide moral, diplomatic and, above all, military support to Ukraine for as long as necessary, Cameron said.

Zelensky said in a video released by his office that he was grateful for the gesture amid the war in the Middle East that is diverting world attention from Russia’s war against Ukraine. “The world is not as focused on the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine, and this division of focus doesn’t really help,” Zelensky said.

Cameron resigned as prime minister in 2016 following Britain’s vote to leave the EU. At the beginning of the week, he was unexpectedly named the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, in a ministerial reshuffle.
