New on Netflix: one of the biggest French hits of the 2010s

Guillaume Canet’s Little Handkerchiefs, available today on Netflix, captured the public when it was released in 2010. The opportunity to see them (again) on the platform.

Why is ?

After a shocking event, a group of friends decide to go on holiday by the sea like they do every year, despite everything. Their friendship, their certainties, their guilt, their love are shaken. They will finally have to lift the “little handkerchiefs” they have placed on their secrets and their lies.

Les petits mouchoirs, a film by Guillaume Canet with François Cluzet, Marion Cotillard, Benoît Magimel…

A friend film

For his third feature film, Guillaume Canet brings Marion Cotillard and his circle of friends in front of the camera. So we find François Cluzet, Valérie Bonneton, Gilles Lellouche, Pascale Arbillot, Laurent Laffite or even his friend, the oyster farmer Joël Dupuch. We can guess the director’s ambition to make a film like Claude Sautet and his classic Vincent, François, Paul… and the others.

Les petits mouchoirs follows the lives of a group of close friends living in Paris. Their everyday life is turned upside down when one of them, Ludovic (Jean Dujardin), is involved in a tragic accident while leaving a nightclub.

As the gang prepares for their summer vacation together, always courtesy of the group’s richest member, Max (François Cluzet), a successful hotelier and restaurateur, they’re unsure if it’s the right time to leave while her boyfriend is in intensive care.

However, hospital visits are limited and Max’s holiday home is only an hour’s drive away. So the group decides to take two weeks instead of a month so they can return when Ludovic is a little less bad to see them.

But with the tragedy hanging over their heads, some truths that the friends have avoided can no longer be hidden by various little lies. As tensions rise, they threaten to ruin not only the holiday atmosphere but their friendship as well.

Little Handkerchiefs was one of the biggest box office hits of 2010, attracting almost 5.5 million admissions to theaters. It is the first French film in the annual ranking. Outside of France, the film attracted 1.1 million viewers internationally.
