A New Orleans teenager has been found guilty of murdering grandmother Linda Frickey, who had one of her arms torn off in a violent carjacking last March.
A jury took less than four hours Monday to convict Honore. He now faces a life sentence for second-degree murder.
His accomplices were all convicted of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Frickey, 73, had just left a local store when the gang of teenagers approached her around 1:30 p.m. on March 21, 2022.
She drove with her body still in the car, trapped by her seatbelt, until one of her arms was severed. It was one of the most violent carjackings the city has ever seen.

Three other teens entered into plea deals that included a manslaughter conviction and a 30-year prison sentence.
They are Briniyah Baker, 17, Lenyra Theophile, 16, and Mar’Qel Curtis. All four were arrested last year after police shared surveillance footage of them on the day of the attack.
One of the girls’ mothers accompanied them to the police station after recognizing them on surveillance footage.
Earlier this month, all three were sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Honore was convicted of second-degree murder and now faces a life sentence.
His lawyers tried to argue his case, claiming he was an idiotic teenager incapable of making decisions with an understanding of the magnitude of their consequences.
In a letter to Frickey’s family, he pleaded for mercy.
“To the family of Ms. Linda Frickey, I’m John and I’m so sorry, I apologize for making you go through what you’re going through. “Anyone’s family shouldn’t have to go through such pain.
Surveillance video showed the teens getting into Frickey’s gray SUV before her arm got caught in the seatbelt and she was dragged down the block
The grandmother screamed at her attackers to let her go before her arm was severed and her clothes were torn off
Honore wrote a letter to Frickey’s family asking for mercy
“I made the biggest mistake of my life that day.” I think about what you and your family will go through every day. I pray the “Our Father” prayer every day and night.
“I ask for forgiveness every day.” I’ve wanted to write a letter to you all for a long time, but I didn’t know what to say, and I still don’t know what to say.
“I just want you to sincerely know that I’m sorry.”
“I know words can change how you feel, but I want you to know that I understand how serious this is and that I believe I’m doing the right thing.”
After his sentencing, members of Frickey’s family celebrated.
“I hope he feels the fear she had in her heart that day.” “I hope he feels the pain and hears himself screaming for mercy and he doesn’t come,” a relative said.
