Sarah-Jeanne Labrosse and Pier-Luc Funk form a fantastic duo in the new series The rebels from Club illico.
The two actors and friends are solid and their obvious complicity comes through on screen.
She plays the lawyer Éléonore St-Laurent, the daughter of a judge who has her heart in the right place, and she plays the journalist Jacob Gravel-Duquette, a man who is not afraid on site. Both have convictions, passion and ambition to change the world. But of course they come up against the reality of a rigid system and therefore are not very flexible when dealing with certain files.

Fortunately, Éléonore, 28 years old, and Jacob, 32 years old, are two woodcutters with great talent. Both of them spare no effort in this series, which deals with current social issues.
Their paths cross when Jacob publishes an article about an immigrant named Rosana Jean (Ayana O’Shun), who is facing deportation two years after arriving in the country. This mother fled her abusive husband (Rodney Alexandre) in Haiti, entered via Roxham Road, and the lawyer just fired her. Éléonore contacts Jacob and becomes his lawyer.

In the 10 episodes directed by Louis Choquette (The Pearls, The Red Bracelets 3), Éléonore and Jacob will work together and advise each other. In addition to immigration, the menu also includes child protection, homelessness and First Nations cases.
romance
Instead of silently sowing a love story between Éléonore and Jacob, we start from the beginning with a romance and intimate scenes that were not difficult for Sarah-Jeanne and Pier-Luc to play, as they told the QMI agency, on the contrary Trust that existed between them.
The series is rhythmic, the camera is jumpy, and the first two hours seen by journalists are rife with cases. It’s not dizzying, though, because the themes are compelling and, like them, there’s a longing for social justice when you see them fighting.
Author Anita Rowan (“Eyes Closed,” “Us”), like a journalist, put together a mix of cases after examining all viewpoints. It features nuanced and flawed characters, and people who are labeled as reliable may “cross the line” in the process.

Producers Fabienne Larouche and Michel Trudeau of Aestios, who had the original idea of Les Révoltés, chose Ms. Rowan for her sensitivity and because she knows well the complexities of our system, being the mother of a disabled child with special needs. She often had to fight for answers and services.
