Netflix has ordered the Shondaland murder mystery drama The Residence from executive producer and showrunner Paul William Davis and executive producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers. The project ties into Davis’ overall deal with Netflix, where Shondaland is also under an exclusive deal.

Using Kate Andersen Brower’s book The Residence: The Inside of the White House as its starting point, the 8-episode series is described by the streamer as “a quirky detective story set upstairs, downstairs and backstage at the White House.” House among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.”
Viewers can expect to see the following key elements: 132 rooms. 157 suspects. One corpse. One wildly eccentric detective. One failed state dinner.
Netflix Pilot and Series Orders for 2022
The Residence joins Shondaland’s portfolio of Netflix series, which includes the popular period drama Bridgerton, which returns for its second season this month, the spin-off Queen Charlotte, and Rhimes’ recently released limited series Inventing Anna.
Davis, a lawyer by profession, has worked his way up the ladder in Shondaland. He was a writer-producer on the ABC series Scandal and later created and produced the ABC/Shondaland legal drama For the People, which ran for two seasons and starred Rare-Jean Page Bridgerton.
