A shooting outside a church in Alabama, southern United States, left two dead and one injured
A shooting Thursday outside a church in Vestavia Hills, Alabama in the southern United States left two dead and one injured, city police said, adding that a suspect was in custody. “Three people at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church were hit by bullets,” Vestavia Hills Police said on their Facebook page. It also states that one suspect is currently in custody and that there is “no additional threat” to the city.
The shooting happened outside the church just after 6 p.m. as a “potluck” was being organized, a communal meal where everyone brings a dish, according to Saint Stephen’s website. Police said the attacker entered the church alone and fired. Three people were affected: two died and another was injured, she said.
The United States is witnessing an outbreak of gun violence, notably marked by the May 24 massacre at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, in which 21 people died, including 19 children. More than 20,000 people have died from guns in the United States since the beginning of the year.
