New surge in Covid 19 infections in Chile

Santiago de Chile, March 2 (Prensa Latina) The Chilean Ministry of Health today reported 2,840 new cases of Covid-19 detected in the past 24 hours and 20 deaths from complications related to the virus.

According to this portfolio’s daily report, the increase in infections over the past week was 25.9 percent nationwide.

The positivity index also rose and now stands at 12.23 throughout Chilean territory and in the metropolitan area, where the capital is located, it rose to 13.07.

Since the beginning of the health crisis, a total of 5,172,090 people have contracted SARS-CoV-2, of which 6,392 are in the active stage.

82 patients are admitted to the intensive care units, 63 of whom are on respiratory support.

With the most recent deaths, there are already 64,000 197 deaths caused by the disease.

The Ministry of Health also reported that starting this Thursday, anyone over the age of 18 can receive the bivalent vaccine provided they have the four doses of the vaccination program.

This preparation, effective against the parent virus and the Omicron variant, is used annually with the aim of protecting the population, however, the pace has been very slow so far due to the lack of public interest.

Authorities are calling through the media to encourage visits to vaccination centers, but only 7.71 percent have participated since the campaign began.

A similar situation arises with the general program against Covid-19, since the first dose covered 94 percent of the population; the second fell to 90.31; the third covered 74 out of 100 and the fourth and final only 26.4 percent. lam/auto/eam
