New suspicion in case of missing Vatican citizen Orlandi

In the case of Emanuela Orlandi, a Vatican citizen who disappeared 40 years ago, an old trail is being reopened. Vatican archives from the 1980s show that Emanuela’s uncle, then 15, sexually molested her older sister, television station La7 reported late on Monday. This was confirmed to the Vatican by the former confessor of the Orlandi family, in whom the older sister confided.

According to La7, there is also a ghost image that was taken by a security guard and a police officer who would have seen Emanuela with a man on the night of her disappearance. This man’s ghost image is similar to his uncle who has since died. According to various press reports, Emanuela’s brother, Pietro Orlandi, was outraged. “You can’t blame everything on the family,” he said. His lawyer Laura Sgro added that the Italian authorities had already investigated the suspicion against the uncle 40 years ago, without any result. It’s nothing new at all.

Emanuela Orlandi, the daughter of a Vatican official, failed to return home from her music class in Rome on June 22, 1983. Since then, rumors and conspiracy theories have swirled about their whereabouts, most recently in a Netflix series. The Italian Public Prosecutor’s Office resumed investigations into the case; also the Vatican Attorney at the request of Pope Francis. Law enforcement agencies from both states agreed to cooperate and exchange information. (KNA)
