The New Year is upon us, my babies – and with it the call to be reborn better.
The year 2024 begins with Mercury ending its retrograde in Sagittarius, a true blessing for lofty resolutions that serve a higher purpose. (For advice on what type of resolve to use based on your zodiac sign, see here.)
As collective advice for the coming month and year, I bring you the words and imperative of Nicki Minaj, a Mercury native under the sign of Sagittarius: “You should never be afraid to become a work of art. It’s exhilarating.”
Be art, damn fear, can dig.
In terms of numerology, the power number of 2024 is 8, a sacred symbol of achievement, abundance, good fortune, and settling karmic debts.
In Chinese numerology, the number is considered so lucky that it is used for wedding dates, business deals and home addresses.
As an upright infinity symbol, the number 8 speaks of the ever-flowing cycles of life, death and retribution. It receives and delivers equally in perfect balance.
We'll take it, people.

Accordingly, the eighth card in the Major Arcana of the Tarot is Strength.
Associated with the zodiac sign Leo, this is the universal tarot card for 2024. In terms of the year's outlook, the Strength card, formerly known as Fortitude, refers to emotional resilience, personal strength and joy as the most triumphant form of resistance.
This steadfastness is represented in the iconography of the card itself; A Leo keeps company with a serene woman, a marriage full of physical ferocity and gentle talent.
The lion represents passion, ego, joy of life and the search for human connection. The big cat also represents the shadow side of Leo energy, which manifests as superficial selfishness when needs go unmet, actions go unnoticed, and the deeper aspects of the self remain unexplored.
As a contrast and compliment, the woman in white symbolizes the self-love required to heal or, if you will, tame destructive impulses and current preoccupations.
Compared to the number 8, Virgo is crowned with the infinity symbol, indicating the limitless capacity of the human heart.
This map and this year invite us to explore the limits of our own wildness. How and why do we feel most alive? Operating from this place of vital fulfillment allows us to live freely, give fully, and love fearlessly.
Happy New Year everyone – long may you roar and become art.
Let tenderness be your first and only weapon this month, Aries. Getty Images/iStockphoto
Chiron, the wounded healer, is finally heading straight into your sign, Aries, after a five-month retrograde. Pain can be clarifying and sharpen the view of what is essential, what triggers and what makes it easier. When we are activated, we can also, if we wish, be enlightened by our own power for integration and evolution. Armed with newfound tenderness toward yourself and others, you are now—more than ever—ready to be a warrior of relief.
The Sun in Capricorn illuminates your ninth house of expansion and exploration, Taurus. Jupiter, the planet of luck and dice. As you move directly into your sign this month, there's never been a better time to go big, make big bets, and stay away from home. Leave the pasture with an open mind and an unbuttoned shirt.

Venus is in the good sign of Sagittarius this month, rejoicing, Gemini, encouraging you to seek the strange and let go of the familiar. The Sun in Capricorn activates your eighth house of sex, death, and transformation, suggesting that the aforementioned weirdness could and should take the form of a one-night stand or a long night of shadow work. Ideally it is suitable for twins with two tendencies as it is both at the same time.
With the Sun and Mars in your opposite sign Capricorn, this month feels particularly relationship-focused for you, Cancer. You're a self-sacrificing care bear, baby, a martyr for love and a sucker for a broken wing. But guess what? You can change this script at any time. Who would you be if you didn't have to save anyone? Could this be the year you choose reciprocity over exhaustion? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you to sign a new contract.

Strength, your crucial part of the divination game is the tarot card of 2024. You know how to be a strong Leo, but where could you bear to be gentle? Whether you lower your voice or sweeten your approach, you can lead by example and lead the rest of us onward and upward toward new levels of emotional resilience and cup-filling love. A full moon in your zodiac sign on January 25th is a (cat) call to proceed with caution and make a strong effort.
The Sun and Mars in Capricorn play hopscotch in your fifth house of joy, play, creativity, and inner child, Virgo. This season, I ask you to remember that creativity is not satisfied with artistic expression, and pleasure is not just a synonym for enjoyment. In the spirit of a new year, a clean slate, and growth, remember the words of productivity expert David Allen: “You can do anything, but you can’t do everything.” Abundance and purpose are key.
The Sun and Mars in Capricorn form a cardinal square for you, Libra (and act as the main buzzkill). When you feel the friction between duty and desire, commitment and personal purpose, family ties and flights of fancy, you may be tempted to give in to complacency. But you'd be better off putting it behind you and using the Sea Goat's lessons to rationalize and strategize so you can let go with grounded satisfaction when the Sun moves into air sign Aquarius on the 20th. Trust me when I tell you that earned pleasure is a whole new kind of kink.

Mars, the god of war – and your ancient planetary ruler – settles in for a six-week stay in the sign of Capricorn. Mars is known for his connection to warfare, but he is also and equally an agricultural guardian, tasked with protecting seedlings and seeds from germination to fruiting. This duality between brutality and beauty is a metaphor for you this month, Scorpio. How do you protect what begins to move in your soil?
Capricorn season is high time to find your way, Sagittarius. You often prioritize living in the moment (a beautiful quality) so much that you don't focus on the possibility that lies in the future. Relax your t-shirts to ensure your tremendous energy moves the proverbial cart rather than turning the wheel.
Happy return of the Sun to you, Capricorn! With Mars, the planet that gets everything going and getting things done, settling in your sign for most of the month, and transformation-through-trauma Pluto rounding out the foundations of its two-decade stay in your cardinal company, there there is a lot of power at play. With a new moon in your sign on January 11th, there's never been a better time to let go of the past and the belief that moving forward is the only way to move forward. Don't be afraid to accept advice and support because the African proverb says: “If you want to go fast, go alone.” If you want to go far, go together.” Here's to a wider future.

The first few weeks of this new year are, or could be, a time of quiet reflection for you, Aquarius. Your twelfth house of endings and your subconscious are activated by the Sun and Mars in Capricorn, but you'd do well to remember that time apart doesn't necessarily mean time alone. The word privacy derives from earlier roots that can be translated as “secret secrets” and/or “for use by privileged persons.” May I suggest that you seek out the privileged few and begin exploring together the kinds of mysteries that attract and turn you on?
The Sun and Mars in Capricorn shine a light—and light a fire—in your eleventh house of high hopes, expansive networks, and social structures, Pisces. Cap energy is divisive and hardworking – with Mercury direct on the 1st, the time is near for you to cultivate and cull the kind of community that supports not only who you are, but also the work you still do have to do. The fast-talking 19th-century preacher Henry Melvill argued, “We cannot live for ourselves alone.” A thousand fibers bind us to those around us.” May the fiber of your friendships become a rope for you to climb .
