- The prosecutor says she worked for the city with Adams at the time
City Hall is defending itself against a sexual assault lawsuit against Mayor Eric Adams, insisting he doesn’t even know his accuser, a yet-unidentified woman who is now seeking $5 million in damages.
The accuser filed a subpoena in civil court last night accusing Adams of sexually abusing her in 1993 when they both worked for the city. It was first reported by The Messenger.
At the time, Adams was 33 years old and working as a captain with the NYPD.
Details of the allegations have not been released, but a City Hall spokesman told the New York Post today that Adams did not know the woman.
“If they ever met, he doesn’t remember it,” they said.

“Plaintiff was sexually abused by defendant Eric Adams in 1993 in New York, New York, while both worked for the city of New York,” says the subpoena, which serves as a notice of a pending lawsuit.
She used New York’s Adult Survivors Act to file the subpoena on the last day it would have been permissible. The law allows victims of historical sexual assault to file a lawsuit within 20 years of the incident. The alleged incident involving Adams is said to have occurred on November 22, 1993.
The NYPD Transit Bureau and the Guardian Association are also named as defendants.
Further details have not been released and Adams, who is already facing intense scrutiny over his campaign’s dealings with Turkish officials and associates, has not yet commented.
He also faced criticism last week over major budget cuts to the NYPD that would reduce the number of officers on the street by thousands.
Earlier this month, the FBI searched the home of one of Adams’ campaign officials as part of a fundraising investigation.
Investigators are investigating whether his team accepted illegal donations from Turkey.
He insists that no injustice was committed and is cooperating with the investigation.
