New York City: Police may have captured a serial killer on the beach

A suspect is being held in unsolved murders in Gilgo Beach, where at least 10 human remains have been discovered in this Long Island, New York suburb since 2010.

This was reported by CNN on Friday morning and stated that this was the first arrest.

The story sparked conflicting theories about whether a serial killer was responsible for the killings, which has puzzled authorities since the first female human remains were found in the bushes of a riverside property.

According to a joint press release, Suffolk County officials, including investigators and the FBI, will provide an update at 4 p.m. to announce “an important development” in the investigation.

Suffolk County officials have been in limbo for years. In 2020, they found a belt with initials that may have been tampered with by the suspect.

They started a website to collect new leads for the investigation.

Police said some of the identified victims had advertised prostitution services on sites including Craigslist.

In May 2020, Suffolk County Police confirmed the remains of Valerie Mack, who had been missing for two decades.

The partial remains of the Philadelphia mother were first discovered near Gilgo Beach. More dismembered remains were found along the Ocean Parkway in 2011.

The Gilgo Beach murders led to a search for a possible serial killer that was never tracked down.
