The US police investigation into Heuermann began in March last year. On January 26, he threw the pizza box in the trash. Investigators recovered the item and sent the leftover pizza to a forensic lab.

The results showed that the same DNA found in the leftover pizza dough was found in the body of one of the victims. The serial murder case became known as the Gilgo Four.

The case began in 2011 when 11 bodies were found in vegetation around Gilgo Beach, a US coastal area near New York. Four women working as call girls were tied up with tape or belts.

In addition to the remains of the pizza, investigators also found evidence linking the architect to the case through internet research. Heuermann has made more than 200 inquiries about serial killers and the Gilgo investigation over the past 16 years.

After the architect’s arrest, the police officer prosecuting the case declared that Rex Heuermann “is a demon walking among us. A predator that ruined families”.
