Cuba. Culture, gastronomy and natural beauties are qualities that the American newspaper The New York Times has taken into account for Cuba to appear today on a list of 52 places to visit in 2023.
One aspect that the press also highlighted is the generosity of the Cuban people and their music, which “is a pervasive and joyful soundtrack that reverberates through their cities and towns.”
The New Yorker newspaper explained that travelers will have the opportunity to find “sea-sprayed pastel facades, white-sand beaches and tobacco-rich valleys.”
In addition, he highlighted the Caribbean country’s “enticing” proximity to the United States, “although it often feels beyond its reach”, due to a key element not mentioned in the publication: the blockade.
For more than six decades, Americans have been barred from freely traveling to the Caribbean nation because of this unilateral siege maintained by both the Democratic and Republican governments.
According to the newspaper, last spring “a confluence of factors” prompted the Biden administration to relax “strict rules” (243 coercive measures) enacted by his predecessor Donald Trump that make it difficult for nationals to visit the island.
Cuba is ranked 27th on the recommendation list, which includes big cities like London (UK) and Madrid (Spain), but also picturesque places chosen for their vast heritage and natural assets.
It’s not the first time the largest island in the Antilles has featured on these Times suggestion lists, and in 2016 the Viñales Valley in the western province of Pinar del Río was also ranked 10th in a report of 52 travel destinations.
