The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Austria is sending ten used ambulances to Ukraine. They are to be used there, among other things, to evacuate the sick and wounded along the escape corridors from contested areas – Russia and Ukraine agreed to ten for this Saturday. The Green Cross gave them away for a token price, and the city of Vienna took care of supplying them with medical supplies and medicines.
Archbishop of Vienna Christoph Schönborn blessed the ten vehicles on Saturday morning in front of the parish church of Neuottakring in the presence of representatives of the Orthodox Church and health counselor Peter Hacker, who explained: “It hurts that in the 21st century people are still shooting on people and on schools, hospitals and kindergartens they drop bombs.” He called for solidarity and promised to welcome all people from Ukraine who seek refuge in Vienna. Cardinal Schönborn, who was once a refugee, thanked everyone who is now helping the displaced.
