Next G20 summit in Brazil: If Putin comes, “he won’t be arrested,” says Lula

Narendra Modi, Lula da Silva and even Russia’s Sergei Lavrov are satisfied with the result. These new tenors of the “Global South” are asserting themselves in this G20, which was previously dominated by the West.

“Geopolitical issues” must not derail G20 talks, the Brazilian president, who took over the bloc’s rotating presidency, said this weekend.

In other words, Lula is wondering: Is the G20 the place to discuss the war in Ukraine? And this is not the only wink from the Latin American head of state to Moscow.

“We like music, carnival, football, but we also like peace and quiet and we like taking care of people,” says Lula. So I believe that Putin can come to Brazil without any problems, even if there is an arrest warrant against him. All I can tell you is that he won’t be arrested if he comes to Brazil and I’m there. »

Despite the arrest warrant issued against him, Vladimir Putin is welcome at the G20 summit in 2024. This interview, broadcast by Indian broadcaster Firstpost, caused a stir in New Delhi. It sets the tone of the Brazilian presidency.
