Next pandemic wave is coming 7,281 new infections

Anyone who thought the pandemic was over or at least taking a break will find themselves better taught by current developments. In the last 24 hours, there were 7,281 new infections of the corona virus, according to data from the Ministry of Health and the Interior (as of Tuesday, 9:30 am), significantly above the average of 6,133 infections per day for the last seven days. The incidence of seven days per 100,000 inhabitants is already 478.1.

As of Tuesday of the previous week, at 4,242, more than 3,000 new infections were reported. The unfavorable development can also be seen in the development of active cases of SARS-CoV-2 infections. There were 64,765 active cases on Tuesday, an increase of 3,421 from Monday. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 4,341,493 confirmed cases in Austria and 4,257,990 people have been reported to have recovered since then. In the last 24 hours, 3,854 were reported healthy. In the last 24 hours, six deaths have been added to Covid-19. The seven-day average was 4.6 Covid deaths per day.

There have been six deaths since yesterday, with a seven-day average of 4.6 a day. 32 deaths were recorded in the last seven days. In total, the Covid 19 pandemic has already claimed 18,738 lives in Austria since its inception. AGES has reported 19,998 deaths since the start of the pandemic on Monday.

The number of patients hospitalized with Covid 19 is also increasing again. 624 people were in hospitals with corona disease on Tuesday, 37 more than on Monday. Of these, 41 were treated in intensive care units, five more than on Monday and two less than a week ago.

In the last 24 hours, 175,051 rapid PCR and antigen tests were recorded. Of these, just under half – 84,302 – were significant PCR tests. The positive rate of PCR tests was 8.6 percent. This 24-hour value was above the previous week’s average (an average of 7.5% of positive PCR tests).

On Monday there were 1,610 vaccinations – 79 of the first, 147 of the second and 1,384 of the third bite. According to e-vaccination card data, 6,830,674 people received at least one vaccine. 5,602,915 people and therefore 62.4% of Austrians currently have valid vaccine protection. 74,679 people have invalidated their vaccination certificates in the last seven days.

The highest seven-day incidence continues to be recorded in Vienna, with 759.2 on Tuesday. Lower Austria followed with 561.4, Vorarlberg with 491 and Burgenland with 471.4. Salzburg reported a seven-day incidence of 442, Tyrol 367.9, Upper Austria 336.2, Styria 303.3, and Carinthia 210.8.

The federal state with the highest seven-day incidence is currently Vienna with 759.2, followed by Lower Austria, Vorarlberg and Burgenland (561.4, 491 and 471.4 respectively). Salzburg (442), Tyrol (367.9), Upper Austria (336.2), Styria (303.3) and Carinthia (210.8) follow.
