Next Tuesday, the President of Ecuador will appear in court

Veloz, interpellant in the court case against the Andean President, confirmed that the appeal will be circulated this Sunday, May 14, in the plenary session of the Legislative Assembly, the day the Assembly will meet to change its powers.

This Friday, Lasso was officially notified of the continuation of impeachment proceedings against him for embezzlement.

The General Secretary of the Legislature, Álvaro Salazar, transmitted to the President a resolution of the plenary session of the National Assembly (Parliament) authorizing the impeachment proceedings against him.

The document also includes the full file of the process, which was sent through the same channel to the 137 members of Parliament for consideration before the vote.

The allegation against Lasso is related to the agreement signed with the Amazonas Tanker Pool association, which includes the public company Flota Petrolera Ecuatoriana (Flopec).

According to Parliament’s resolution, the diversion or diversion of funds generated annually by these corporate pools, with which Flopec had a contractual relationship to transport crude oil, is evident.

After the ruler’s official notification of the court proceedings, the President of the National Assembly must convene the plenum to discuss the censure and Lasso’s dismissal and vote in favor of it, which was voted for by a two-thirds majority of 92 in the legislature.

Meanwhile, the government insists on exempting the head of state from impeachment and has urged the Constitutional Court to follow up and follow the court case’s decision to try to stop the process.
