NFL Free Agency Jamaal Williams signs 3 year contract with Saints

NFL Free Agency: Jamaal Williams signs 3-year contract with Saints – Pride Of Detroit

After the Detroit Lions reached an agreement with running back David Montgomery, the writing was on the wall for free agent Jamaal Williams. On Wednesday night, the inevitable came true. According to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Williams signs a three-year contract with the New Orleans Saints.

Williams has been the emotional heart of the Lions for the past two seasons, showing what it takes to be a hard worker and uncompromisingly yourself. During the training camp documentary Hard Knocks, he took center stage and rallied the troops to the field. It finally paid off in the regular season as Williams rushed for a career-high 1,066 rushing yards and set the Lions franchise record with 17 rushing touchdowns.

However, the Lions and Williams shared a common interest in a return to Detroit Recent reports suggested the two sides were not close on the terms of the deal. Eventually, the Lions called off negotiations and signed Montgomery to a three-year, $18 million contract, including a $11 million guarantee.

So what did the Saints pay for Williams?

$12 million for three years with $8 million guaranteed after Ian Rapoport.

In two seasons, Williams quickly became a fan favorite in Detroit – just as he had done in Green Bay. We wish Williams the best in New Orleans — with the one exception being when the Saints and Lions meet next year.

Williams has already expressed his heartfelt thanks to the City of Detroit:
