The 37-year-old announced this on his social media on Tuesday. It was the first time he spoke publicly about his situation.

“I just want to thank everyone for their prayers and the love I’ve received,” Hillis wrote. It made all the difference. I also want to thank my brave sister, mother, sister-in-law, children and lover who saved my life in so many ways.

“I did not accept interviews on this subject because I did not want my family to be exposed after this very traumatic experience. Still, I wanted to express my gratitude to those who saved my life. I left the hospital knowing that I will make a 100% recovery. I am a very lucky man.”

Hillis was flown to a hospital in Pensacola, Florida. He then spent a long time in intensive care due to lung and kidney problems.

The draftsman drafted by the Denver Broncos in the seventh round of the 2008 auction has played seven seasons in the NFL. Hillis excelled in 2010 with the Cleveland Browns when he had 1,177 yards and 11 touchdowns on 270 carries. Video game fans also saw it on the cover of Madden NFL 12.
