Brock Purdy and the 49ers advanced to the NFC Divisional Playoffs Saturday with an intense 41-23 win over the Seattle Seahawks to kick off Super Wild Card Weekend.
San Francisco, No. 2 in the NFC bracket, will welcome its next opponent to Levi’s Stadium next weekend, but who the 49ers play against will depend on the remaining results of the wild-card game.
Should the No. 6 New York Giants beat the No. 3 Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Daniel Jones and company would play the No. 1 Philadelphia Eagles. The 49ers, meanwhile, would face the winner of Monday night’s game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in this scenario.
But if the Vikings win on Sunday, Minnesota would travel to San Francisco instead, and Philadelphia would play winner Dallas-Tampa Bay.
Scenario #1 presents the 49ers with some familiar situations. They already beat the Buccaneers in week 14 of the regular season, and a rematch between the GOAT (Tom Brady) and Mr. Irrelevant (Purdy) would certainly be a must-watch on TV. And after San Francisco threw the Cowboys out of the playoffs last year, that would likely bring great joy again.
After the 49ers passed the Vikings for the No. 2 spot late in the season, it would also be icing on the cake if Purdy sent Kirk Cousins and Co. home.

It took the 49ers a complete team effort to defeat the Seahawks in Round 1. And as things got rolling on both sides of the ball, San Francisco looked unstoppable.
Now the 49ers will take all that energy into the division round — no matter who’s awaiting them.
