The San Francisco 49ers took advantage of the Washington Commanders’ fire sale to acquire defensive end Chase Young.
The NFL Network learned this on Tuesday during the Goodell Circuit trade deadline. The club from the American capital received a third-round pick in the 2024 draft in return for the footballer.

Young was the second overall pick in the 2020 draft and won the NFL’s Most Valuable First-Year Player award that same year. Since then, the 24-year-old athlete has been injured more frequently than before and has not been able to maintain performances comparable to those of his first season.
This season, the Ohio State Buckeyes product has recorded 15 tackles and five sacks in seven games. He will also join his former teammate Nick Bosa on the 49ers’ defensive line. The two players played together in the NCAA “rain and shine.”
The Commanders also traded defensive end Montez Sweat on Tuesday. They sent him to the Chicago Bears for a 2024 second-round pick.
The 27-year-old veteran was selected by the Washington team in the first round (26th overall) of the 2019 draft. He has totaled 32 tackles and 6.5 sacks in eight appearances this season.

The Minnesota Vikings acquired quarterback Joshua Dobbs from the Arizona Cardinals today. To get him, they gave up a 2024 sixth-round pick.
The 28-year-old pivot will be tasked with replacing Kirk Cousins behind center. The latter tore his Achilles tendon this weekend and his season is over.
Dobbs was the Cards’ starter for the first eight games this year. He completed 62.8% of the passes he attempted for 1,569 yards and eight touchdowns, while also scoring three majors with his legs. He was also intercepted five times.
On Monday, Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said Dobbs would no longer be his starting quarterback and would hand the ball to Clayton Tune if Kyler Murray was unable to return to the game soon.
