The Dolphins ran at Tom Brady a few years ago and were chastised for not following the right channels when recruiting the star quarterback.
In a few months, Miami will have a chance to go after the seven-time Super Bowl champion with no strings attached. Will the dolphins take the opportunity?
It’s a possibility that’s “definitely on the table,” a “source with common knowledge of the various dynamics surrounding anything Brady is concerned” told Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio. The big question is: what does Miami want to do with Tua Tagovailoa?
Tagovailoa, who will miss Sunday afternoon’s playoff match between the Dolphins and Bills in Buffalo due to his third concussion of the season, will be in the final year of his rookie deal in the 2023 season and will receive a base salary of around $4.7 million . As Florio pointed out, that cheap price could hypothetically allow Miami to keep Tagovailoa on the list as Brady’s replacement. The Finns could also try to trade the 2020 first-rounder this off-season.
As for Brady, joining the Dolphins makes a lot of sense on paper. Miami boasts one of the NFL’s best wide receiver tandems, an innovative offensive head coach, and a talented defense. Even a move from Tampa Bay to South Beach would not be very difficult for the 45-year-old.
All in all, the dolphins should probably enter the TB12 Sweepstakes as a matter of due diligence, if nothing else. But Miami could be ousted by teams like the Las Vegas Raiders who need a lot more quarterback help.
