Game winning punt return!!!

Unbelievable. In what would have been conversationally the worst game of the entire season, the Patriots-Jets finish was one of the best we’ll see all year. On the afternoon’s 16th punt (!), rookie Marcus Jones caught the ball at his own 26-yard line, broke out, saw a crease in the touchline, and exploded through it. With a man to beat, Jones decisively moved back into the center of the field and left the punter in the dust, crossing the goal line with just 5 seconds to play to lead the Patriots to a huge division win.

Hurts helps Eagles survive

If you want something done, do it yourself. Jalen Hurts did just that with play on the line as he took the shotgun shot, did a two-step drop, planted, and exploded in the middle before going over the goal line waltzed. As poorly as Philadelphia played, Hurts’ touchdown in the last two minutes proved to be a game-winning result.

AT LAST!

It’s really impressive that the Panthers and Ravens combined for zero touchdowns in the first three and a half quarters. Lamar Jackson finally said, “Enough of that,” and took the zone-reading keeper off the right tackle for the 1-yard score.

Fields magic leads to TD

Justin Fields appears to have come closest to Kyler Murray as Lamar Jackson in the NFL, and his crawling magic was fully on display on a crucial third and 12 in the red zone. After dodging defenders for about 10 seconds, Fields eventually found Equanimeous St. Brown for the first down conversion. A few games later, the game was tied on David Montgomery’s touchdown run.

Mariota slides into the end zone

The Bears jumped out to a 10-point lead, but it’s been just Hawks ever since. Make those 17 unanswered points after Marcus Mariota’s 10-yard scamper put Atlanta back ahead early in the fourth quarter.

Eagles had lives…

It’s taken three quarters, but the Eagles are finally playing like a team that shares the best record in the NFL. First, Jalen Hurts delivered a laser to Quez Watkins for the touchdown — the team’s first of the game. — and on the ensuing possession, the defense stripped Jonathan Taylor to set Philadelphia in Colts territory.

Well, they were playing like an 8-1 team… until AJ Brown fumbled and returned the ball straight to the Colts, who are trying to pull off a big upset.

Njoku goes upstairs

Bill safety Jordan Poyer dived on David Njoku’s legs, which is usually a good strategy against larger pass catchers. But Njoku had a feeling it was coming, so he sped over Poyer and landed on his feet before being pushed wide. Such an athletic play from the 6-foot-4, 246-pounder.

OLAVE

Yeah, that’s what I screamed in my head as rookie Chris Olave got behind the Rams defense and caught a 53-yard bomb from Andy Dalton. He’s been great for New Orleans all season, and Sunday was no different. He has caught four passes for 97 yards and the above score.

Someone might want to cover for Diggs

It doesn’t matter that Stefon Diggs didn’t have a goal in the first 29 minutes and 46 seconds of the game. You don’t just leave him WIDE OPEN in the end zone. The Browns completely forgot about the two-time Pro Bowler, allowing Josh Allen to find him for a five-yard score to take the lead before halftime.

NFL record!

Nobody has returned kickoffs for touchdowns more than Cordarrelle Patterson, who made everyone else on the field look like they were in slow motion on his 103-yard touchdown. Even at 31, Patterson remains electric. It was the ninth kick return of his career, breaking Josh Cribbs’ record for the largest in NFL history.

10 out of 10

Ten touchdowns in the last 10 quarters for Justin Fields, who carried the Bears’ quick attack in the first half. He has already 73 yards on 14 carries and that four-yard rushing score.

Williams scores third TD on the day, 12th of the season

Jamaal Williams was one of the biggest surprises of the season. With D’Andre Swift struggling with injuries, Williams has played a much more important role for the Lions. Even in games involving Swift, Williams was almost automatically a goal-line defender. With two goals in the first half and a goal early in the third quarter on Sunday, Williams passed Nick Chubb for the fastest touchdowns in the NFL this season at 12.

Williams also passes Barry Sanders for the franchise record for most rushed touchdowns in the first 10 games of a season.

Top draft pick ends streak

Daniel Jones hadn’t thrown an interception since Week 3 (152 attempts), but that streak ended courtesy of Lions top draft pick Aidan Hutchinson. The No. 2 overall fell a few steps back into cover and then PLUCKED the ball out of the air for his second interception of his rookie campaign.

ONE HAND

Justin Fields is the primary reason for the Bears’ offensive explosion in recent weeks, but he’s not the only reason. Tight end Cole Kmet also played a key role in games like this one, which went for 24 yards.

Big man INT!

Who says 330-pounders can’t catch! With the Ravens in the red zone, Panthers defensive tackle Bravvion Roy let go of his block as Lamar Jackson prepared to throw, got his hands on the fast track and then hauled in the interception to keep the game scoreless.

Samuel slips through the defense

The Commanders have signed Curtis Samuel as their all-around offensive weapon, and after injuries robbed him of most of last season, he’s worthy of the team’s investment. Check out this jet sweep to Samuel, weaving in and out of defenses from 10 yards on his way to the end zone.

BULL. HURRY UP.

Welcome to the NFL, Kenyon Green! The first-round guard has been solid for the Texans so far this season, but he’s had NO CHANCE against Commanders Pro Bowler Jonathan Allen. That’s just disrespectful of Allen, who basically fired Green and Davis Mills at the same time.

Tutu TD

With Cooper Kupp reportedly out six to eight weeks after ankle surgery, the other Rams receivers will need to step up if they have any chance of getting back into the playoff race. 2021 runner-up Tutu Atwell makes his contribution, running past his defender on the left touchline and catching a dime from Matthew Stafford for the 62-yard touchdown.

Good start in the field

Justin Fields has been electric for the past month, and the Falcons get an early taste of that on Sunday. A huge kick return from rookie Velus Jones Jr. put the Bears in plus territory, and Fields basically did the rest with nine rushing yards and a few completions, including this 16-yard hit against Darnell Mooney.

London thinks Pay is dirt

The Falcons’ run-heavy offense has overshadowed the talent and potential of Drake London, but the first-rounder made his presence known in the first quarter on Sunday. His two-yard touchdown catch capped off an impressive 10-play, 75-yard for Atlanta.

Browns strike first

For the second straight game, the Browns marched right down the field for a touchdown to start the game against a Super Bowl contender. Last week it was the dolphins; bills this week. Nine plays, 75 yards and that 25-yard touchdown shot from Jacoby Brissett to Amari Cooper. One hell of a start for Cleveland, who is hoping this will be better than last week. After taking a 7-0 lead in Miami, the Browns were knocked out 39-17.

Choose six!

Brutal start for the Texans Davis Mills. He sought out Brandin Cooks on his second pass of the game, only for Commanders cornerback Kendall Fuller to skip the route that secured interception and go untouched into the end zone for the 37-yard score.

JT

It’s nice to see Jonathan Taylor in full health. The reigning rushing champion had one of his best games of the season last week, and he got off to a great start on Sunday by hitting a 28-yard streak in the Colts’ opening run against the Eagles. A few games later, he put Indianapolis on the board first with a one-yard score.

In search of clarity of the playoff picture

The Dolphins are currently No. 2 in the AFC while the Bengals are ninth, looking from the outside in. However, only one game separates the two teams in the losing column. The AFC is so confused at the moment.

Thankfully Sunday’s week 11 chalkboard should provide some clarity. If the Patriots can beat the Jets, they’ll have the same record but the all-important tiebreaker as they both try to make it through the postseason. In the meantime, the Chargers have a huge opportunity not only to jump to a wildcard spot, but also to draw within a game against the top seeded Chiefs if they can beat them on Sunday Night Football. The Bengals will be looking to keep up with the AFC North-leading Ravens, but an away game against a stingy Steelers squad won’t be easy.

Things are a lot clearer in the NFC – although there are some showdowns that will surely impact the playoff seeding. Can the Vikings stay hot against the Cowboys and stake their claim on the conference? Can Washington get any closer to a wildcard spot against the lowly Texans? And then there’s the NFC West. If the 49ers beat the Cardinals in Mexico City on Monday night, they will reach a tie with the Seahawks at the top of the division. But lose to Arizona and suddenly Kliff Kingsbury’s team is in the playoff mix.

There are eight more Sundays in the regular season (including today), so a lot can happen between now and week 18. But with the 2022 season more than halfway through, every result will have an impact on who plays on and who stays at home in January.
