New Orleans Saints tight end Foster Moreau feels like he let everyone down in the final moments of Thursday night’s 31-34 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
About 30 seconds before the end of the game in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, the 26-year-old was completely alone in the pay zone on his third attempt. Quarterback Derek Carr’s throw was perfect, but Moreau couldn’t complete the catch.
“It’s difficult,” said the player, whose comments were reported by the ESPN network. It happened in front of every man, woman and child I know. This is a dark moment. It’s the NFL. It’s not played in a single play, but it was played in a single play.”
“The team did their best and that is simply unacceptable. It’s pathetic,” he added of his missed catch.
After this mistake, the Saints (3-4) tried to score in the fourth attempt but came up empty. This allowed the Jaguars (5-2) to end the game with possession of the ball.
Moreau’s final year was marked by trials. He was diagnosed with cancer last offseason. Saints doctors discovered he had Hodgkin’s lymphoma during an examination during his recruiting process in March. Two months later, he signed a three-year contract worth $12 million with the New Orleans club. In July, he announced that he was in complete remission.
