NHL: A second hat trick for Auston Matthews

Auston Matthews continued his momentum from Wednesday against the Montreal Canadiens, scoring his second hat trick in as many games in the Maple Leafs’ 7-3 win over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night.

Toronto’s No. 34 scored his third goal of the game in the third period thanks to a backhand shot after going around Filip Gustavsson’s net. William Nylander also got his hands dirty and scored two goals. See above.

Marco Rossi scored his first goal in the National League (NHL) for the Wild. Ryan Hartman, Matt Boldy and Brandon Duhaime were also there for the visitors.

The Wild will look to get back to winning ways on Tuesday against the Canadiens at the Bell Centre.

Boone Jenner takes care of the Rangers

The Columbus Blue Jackets recorded their first win of the season with a 5-3 win against the New York Rangers. Ohio team captain Boone Jenner scored a hat trick in his team’s victory.

Johnny Gaudreau had two assists, as did defenseman Ivan Provorov.

On the Blue Shirts’ side, former Habs fullback Erik Gustafsson was probably his team’s best defender thanks to a goal and an assist and a +2 differential. Alexis Lafrenière finished the game with a record of -2 in 17 minutes and 48 seconds of play.

Blue Jackets goaltender Elvis Merzlikins did not return to his club’s net in the third period because he was ill. Previously, number 90 had made 24 saves on 25 shots.

Evgeni Malkin continues his momentum

After putting up four points against the Washington Capitals the day before, Evgeni Malkin was productive again in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 5-2 win over the Calgary Flames, scoring a goal and an assist.

Jake Guentzel was not to be outdone, he gave the red light once and was also involved in Bryan Rust’s two goals.

For the Flames, 20-year-old forward Matthew Coronato moved the ropes in the Bettman circuit for the first time in his career. However, he recorded the worst differential (-4) for his club in the game.

The Bruins are still undefeated

The Boston Bruins have yet to lose this season, winning 3-2 against the Nashville Predators. New signing James Van Riemsdyk scored two goals, while David Pastrnak scored from the penalty spot.

Colton Sissons imitated Van Riemsdyk, but it wasn’t enough for Nashville.

Jeremy Swayman, Boston’s goalkeeper, made 33 saves on 35 shots and was named the game’s second star.

First points for Benson

The surprise of the year for the Buffalo Sabers Zach Benson scored his first career points in the National League on Saturday in his team’s 3-2 loss to the Islanders.

The forward, 13th overall pick in 2023, was an accomplice in the goals of Jordan Greenway in the 2nd period and those of Casey Mittelstadt in the 3rd period. See below.

Despite Benson’s efforts, the Sabers were unable to defeat the Islanders. With less than seven minutes to play, Casey Cizikas scored the winning goal. Brock Nelson and Kyle Palmieri are the other scorers for New York.
