NHL: Deslauriers scorer in Flyers win

Former Montreal Canadiens Nicolas Deslauriers stood out on offense in the Philadelphia Flyers’ 5-2 win over the New York Islanders on Thursday.

After a throw from defenseman Travis Sanheim, Garnet Hathaway picked up the rebound to pass the puck to Deslauriers. The latter didn’t miss the opportunity to put the puck into Seymon Varlamov’s net. See the goal above.

It was this goal that enabled the Flyers to equalize at the end of the first period. The Pennsylvania club then scored three unanswered goals and took a 4-1 lead. New York reduced the score early in the third period, but it was too little, too late.

A first for Tyler Bertuzzi

In a close but lively game, the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 at Scotiabank Arena. Tyler Bertuzzi, the club’s summer signing, scored his first goal with the Leafs.

William Nylander (twice) and Auston Matthews also gave the local favorites red lights. For the guests, new signing Shayne Gostisbehere collected two points, while former CH Ben Chiarot recorded an assist.

Hendrix Lapierre is attracting attention from the Capitals

Quebec junior Hendrix Lapierre scored his first goal of the preseason with the Washington Capitals in his team’s 4-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Stefan Matteau, who already wore the Habs jersey in the 2015-2016 season, also took part in the encounter for Columbus. He collected one assist in 12:20 minutes of playing time.
