NHL Expansion: Gary Bettman can expect questions

National Hockey League (NHL) governors are meeting in Seattle on Monday and Tuesday to discuss a variety of topics, and while potential expansion isn’t on the agenda, some attendees will want to know more about it.

At least that’s the opinion of TSN hockey expert Pierre LeBrun, who believes Commissioner Gary Bettman will have to answer questions about expanding the scope. However, it is unlikely that the big boss will reveal new details in the short term, the journalist added.

“I suspect there will be at least one governor who will ask him to update him on the latest developments. “It’s not on the agenda, but it certainly could be,” LeBrun commented on the air. I think what we’re going to hear from Bettman is that he’s been telling the media that has gathered around him for six to seven months. The NHL continues to attract interest from places like Salt Lake City, Houston, Atlanta and Quebec.”

“Right now the league has no plans to expand except that this will change. Every indication from Gary Bettman suggests that the trial will resume at some point, but not now,” LeBrun continued.

The case for adding teams should remain relevant in the old capital, where the Videotron Center is poised to welcome a franchise and where hockey fans have been waiting for the Nordiques’ return since their departure for Denver, Colorado in the spring of 1995. Until a potential return to Quebec, local fans will be treated to two Los Angeles Kings friendly games on October 3 and 5, 2024.
